Police in Imo State have foiled an attempted robbery at Goldwise jewellery Shop located at Ikenegbu Layout near Kilimanjaro Ekwema Crescent Owerri, the Imo state capital, as the shooting  was on going, the gang driver was shot dead at the scene.

The shop that is located at the heart of the town popularly known as 'IKENEGBU'. The  Goldwise Jewellery, owned by Wisdom Anosike from Mbano, deals on all kinds of gold, diamonds and other expensive precious stones.

The Cable learned that the gunmen stormed the popular jewellery shop between  11 and 12noon, and while carting away valuables, encountered the operatives of Imo police who had cordoned the area.

An eyewitness had this to say, "the gunmen operated in a Hilux bus and they had almost succeeded when they incurred the police who had already cordoned the area.

"The driver of the gang was shot dead while they exchanged gunshots. There was serious stampede as pedestrians and motorists alike scampered for safety"

Meanwhile, the Imo state police command, through its Spokesman, Henry Okoye, has confirmed the incident but disclosed that two of the gunmen were apprehended in the process.

The Spokesman said the two suspects are currently in the police custody while investigation is still ongoing.
