The President, Global Imo State University Graduates Alumni (GIMSUGA), Dr. Anayo Chukwunonye Uhiara, says proper arrangements have been put in place to ensure that the alumni association host an appealing and a successful Maiden Convention/Annual General Meeting from 17th to 20th August, 2023, in Owerri, the Imo State Seat of power.
Uhiara disclosed this while briefing journalists in Owerri on Saturday. He said he felt pleased to speak to pen pushers about the forthcoming event of the alumni association having been authorized by Board of Trustees, National Executive Council and Members of GIMSUGA who he mentioned elected him and others on 15th of April, 2023, to steer their affairs for 2 years.
While noting that GIMSUGA which was duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission with the intention to come together to relate as friends, uplift and encourage the growth and wellbeing of members to the benefit of IMSU and Imo State in general, Uhiara informed that GIMSUGA "uses this medium to extend our invitation to all Imo Stars who are yet to formally register with the alumni association to be present and participate in all the activities lined up for this Convention. On Thursday, 17th of August, will be the arrival and host Home Hospitality Reception at Golden Tulip Essentials, Okigwe Road, Owerri, by 6:pm".
He added that "on Friday 18th of August, by 6:am at Golden Tulip Essentials will be for aerobic exercise. By 10:am we will converge for the Town Hall Meeting and House of Friendship Exhibition at IMSU Auditorium, Owerri. On Satuday, 18th of August at 7:am will be Health Walk and Medical Extermination while the Convention Ceremony and Award Presentation and Annual General Meeting will commence by 11:am. On Sunday, 20th August, is Thanksgiving to God for a successful Convention at St. Joseph Catholic Chaplaincy, IMSU, by 9:am, after which members will be expected to depart to their various destinations".
Also, the association hinted that prominent persons across board including Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, as Special Guest of Honour, are going to receive awards from GIMSUGA given to their selfless contributions to the growth of IMSU and Imo State entirely with a lecturer in IMSU and Commissioner for Education, Prof. John-Cliff Nwadike, being the Keynote Speaker, just as Member representing Orlu, Orsu, Oru West Federal Constituency, Hon. Cannice Moore Chukwugozie Nwachukwu, as Chairman of the occasion, while the Assistant General Manager/Regional Bank Head, Fidelity Bank, Imo -Abia Region, Nze Nwabueze Mbanaso, as Co- Chairman.
Uhiara reflected that as critical stakeholders in IMSU, GIMSUGA has plans to contribute immensely towards the advancement of the university. "Our alumni association and the institution are not relenting in our determined efforts at improving on infrastructure in the University, digitalised teaching, learning and other operations at IMSU to reflect the global best practices. As an association we key into the laudable vision of the state government and the Vice Chancellor and his Management to create a modern ICT Robust learning environment for smart teaching and learning".
He stressed that GIMSUGA "has plans to commence work on the Sports Complex as quickly as possible and to provide ICT enabled facilities and platforms to aid smart teaching and learning... We also got into partnership with an international organization (Large Michaels) to open up a Printing and Imaging Business Centre in IMSU. MoU was duly signed with the University, the company and GIMSUGA and a site was secured for this project. We shall ensure that the project commences so that the stakeholders may reap the benefits therein".
The Global President who pointed out that GIMSUGA is the umbrella body that houses all alumni groups or associations in Imo State University, Owerri, observed that GIMSUGA is a non- partisan group whose objectives are to lift, assist members, contribute to the academic, moral growth of IMSU and development of Imo State for enhanced goodness, peace, comfort and society edification.
