The traditional ruler of Ihim autonomous community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area and Chairman, Governing Council, Imo State College of Education, Ihitte-Uboma, HRH, Eze Dr. Oliver Ohanweh, has in strong terms condemned the killing of security agents in Ehime Mbano by gunmen.
Eze Ohanweh made the condemnation in an interview with journalists during the Imo Media Practitioners Summit in collaboration with Promotions Onion Communication Ltd themed Media Practice: Challenges of the 21st Century, held at Rockview Hotel Owerri on Thursday.
He said the killing was dastardly and regrettable as the security operatives dedicated themselves in securing the area, urging families of the victims to bear the irreplaceable loss of their beloved ones with fortitude.
The monarch was also bitter of the alleged reprisal attack by the security operatives who he said took laws into their own hands destroyed and looted properties of innocent people at the area, arrested and injured scores, advising the people to be very conscious of their security to save their lives.
The traditional ruler called for mutual understanding among the people, government and security operatives in finding solution to the insecurity issues he frowned ravage the state.
"I condemn in strong terms the killing of security agents in Ehime Mbano by gunmen. I also condemn the alleged reprisal attack on innocent people whose houses, shops and other property were destroyed and looted by the security operatives. Let there be understanding. Let all hands be on deck to address squarely insecurity in Imo State. Youths should behave well, dress well to ward off attacks. Crime and violence do not pay good. Hence, love and tolerance should reign supreme", Ohanweh advised.
However, Quest Speakers at the Summit, Prof. Nnamdi Obiaraeri (former Dean, Faculty of Law, Imo State University, Owerri) and Prof. Protus Nathan Uzoma (of University of Uyo), charged media professionals to practice in line with the ethics of journalism to make more progress, as well as add to the growth of the society.
Personalities who graced the event included Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, who was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Oguwuike Nwachukwu, Publisher/Chief Executive Officer of Horn Newspapers, High Chief Bright Chimezie Njoku (Agunaechemba), Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Imo State Chapter, Comr. Ifeanyi Nwanguma, Imo State NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs. Nnaji Dorothy PhD.
