The Nigerian government has said that it plans to include pupils of military schools across the country in the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).
This was made known by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu, during her recent visit to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the minister as saying, "We would actually be rejigging this programme, so we are coming up with more innovative ways of providing these services to Nigerians.
"Because we have malnutrition as an issue for us to manage, we want to concentrate on it so that pupils from class one to five can benefit.
"We will step it all the way down to bring in more efficiency to the programme, it will be all-encompassing and that is another avenue that we can partner.”
The minister, who also talked about establishing a military desk office in the humanitarian ministry to liaise with them on a constant basis, said that it was important "So that while we are preparing every programme, we have to write to you and then your desk officer liaises with us.
"You can tell us the areas where we can collaborate with you for the pupils of the military schools to benefit from our work.”
