Illustrious indigenes of Imo State, Bishop Prof Athan Azubuike, President, Clergy for Justice and Peace International, CJPI, Prof Osy Nwebo, Hon. Eric Uwakwe, SA to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Youth Affairs, Obinna Bright Ekwebelem, SDP governorship candidate and Prof Uzoma Protus, have called on political, religious leaders, traditional rulers, entire people and residents of Imo State to shun every difference or obstacle, work collectively to stop insecurity, as well as restore peace in Imo State.
They made the call while speaking at a One-day Imo State Peace Conference held at Rockview Hotel, Owerri, on Saturday.
Hinging on the theme of the Peace Conference, "Come, Let Us Reason Together", convened by Clergy for Justice and Peace International, a remarkable non-governmental, non-profit, non-political and non-denominational organization, the speakers urged government to provide jobs for youths, create enabling environments that can encourage productivity, comfort, conviviality, solidify education, make tuition, fees low and affordable for all, strengthen health sector, fix roads, provide electricity and pipe born water that will function regularly and fully, saying these measures will automatically douse crime and violence therein if they are quickly and effectively implemented.
Bishop Prof Azubuike Nathan who appreciated Governor Hope Uzodimma and others for ensuring that peace and orderliness reign in Imo State, stressed that every "Imolite should be deeply concerned about peace and security in the state. Because when there is peace all of us will enjoy our lives comfortably. The Clergy will continue to preach peace. Peace is very important. Peace is priceless. CJPI will always propagate goodness and security of all. For there to be sustainable peace, we need to work with youths, for youths are engine of peace, security and development. We should also shun fake news, embrace one another in love and tolerance to move on".
With one of the speakers at the Peace Conference, Prof Osy Nwebo, urging the opposition to stop hitting up the polity because of their inordinate ambition for power and rather advised them to follow democratic ethos in their politicking. "Government should as a matter of necessity provide good governance in line with precepts of democracy. The Clergy should liaise with government and other critical stakeholders to preach peace and promote security and social justice".
Just as the SDP guber candidate in the November 11 2023 election, Obinna Bright Ekwebelem, promised that he will drive processes that will create employment, strengthen peace and security in the state, adding that he is prepared to govern Imo State and restore dignity and economic prosperity, as he appealed for the people's support and votes to enable him win the election and change the ugly narrative.
Receiving Award for Ikenga Ukaegbu Joseph, Prof Protus Uzoma, said Ikenga deserved the honor bestowed on him by the CJPI, harping that peace and security could only be holistically achieved in the state when political actors, politicians, church, community and citizens agree and work on one page.
Calling on Imo youths to shun crime and violence, embrace hardwork, learn skills to better their lives and have fantastic existence, SA to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Youth Affairs, Hon Erick Uwakwe, urged them to vote for Uzodimma to enable him consolidate his good works in the state.
However, one of the awardees, Nneoma Christina Oparaugo, promised to enliven the accolade by ensuring she makes peace always, praying to God to help her to be an instrument of peace and progress in her family, village and community, thanking the Clergy for Justice and Peace International for finding her worthy of the Award.
