Nigerian Police Release Chief Imam Who Engaged Correctional Service Officer, Others To Torture 24-Year-Old To Death ‘For Stealing Cables’ In Adamawa



 

 

 






Our Reporters learnt that some concerned residents of the Jimeta Central Mosque in Adamawa also demanded justice for the deceased, Aliyu Umar Goni, who was killed for allegedly stealing electronic cables at the mosque.

The Nigeria Police Force has freed a Chief Imam who colluded with an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) and others to allegedly torture a 24-year-old boy to death in Adamawa State.

Our Reporters learnt that some concerned residents of the Jimeta Central Mosque in Adamawa also demanded justice for the deceased, Aliyu Umar Goni, who was killed for allegedly stealing electronic cables at the mosque.

Our Reporters reliably gathered that the incident happened on Monday, October 23, 2023 at about 11:40am when the Chief Imam of Jimeta Central Mosque accused the deceased of stealing electronic cables and called his sons to kill the suspect.

According to reports, among seven people that killed Umar Goni was staff of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), Modi Hassan; two local vigilantees namely one Abdulhadi and one Suleiman Usman. Others are Yusuf Hassan, Tijjani Hassan, Amir Hassan and Baban Anty.

The concerned residents stated in a release made available to Our Reporters that "the Chief Imam of Jimeta Central Mosque had accused the deceased of stealing electronic cables and as a result, he called the attention of his children namely - Yusuf Hassan, Tijjani Hassan, Amir Hassan and Modi Hassan."

The children according to the residents came and immediately engaged in torturing deceased. "They severely used hard objects and tear gas brought by MODI Hassan an officer of the Nigerian Correctional Centre Adamawa state.

"They succeeded in deliberately fracturing his legs, hands and ultimately his neck. After the torture the NCS officer among them spread tear gas around the entire body of the deceased and locked him up in a generator room until his death."

According to the concerned group, the cable was later seen, tied around the deceased boy’s neck as at the time he was discovered dead in a generator room.
It was revealed that the Nigerian police after the incident arrested the Imam and took the deceased body to the mortuary.

They however, regretted that the police at the Police Force Headquarters, Yola, Adamawa State command, released the Chief Imam as he was seen by members of the community where the incident occurred.

"The corpse is deposited at mortuary in specialist hospital, Yola Adamawa state Capital and may likely be released today for burial arrangements.

“As a good Samaritans who believe 100% in the police, we demanded that justice must be done for the families of the deceased,” one of the residents said. 

Others also demanded that all those involved should be brought to book to face the wrath of the law.
