Imo State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development,Dr. Princess Rabbi Ibrahim has commended the State Governor,His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma for his passion for persons living with disabilities.
Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday 6th December,2023 during the celebration of International Day of persons with disabilities,Dr. Ibrahim recalled Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State appointed person with disabilities into his cabinet calling on people not to discriminate them.
She insisted that there are abilities in disabilities maintaining that majority of them are educated.
According to her,"ideas rule the world and not the state of one's ability".
She also called for significant improvement on the budget for the Commission for Disabled Persons in Nigeria, saying under the Shared Prosperity of Governor Hope Uzodimma,there is no segregation.
"Governor Uzodimma is prepared and committed to doing everything possible to see that PWDs take centre stage in our State's development.
I want to use this medium to call on our state governments to establish, and for those who have established already, to domesticate persons with disabilities law and Commissions across the country".
“Doing this will give PWDs equal rights and voices as citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and will enable us to have seamless programmes that can get to the grassroots in all the 774 Local Government Areas of Nigeria.
We have the Governor's backing, we must protect the persons with disability so we are calling strongly for the creation of all the accessibility mediums for persons with disability in all Public and Private buildings in the country"
Similarly, the Commissioner congratulated Governor Uzodimma on his recent Supreme Court victory thanking Imolites for the Governor.
