In a recent press statement, the Human Life Protection Advocacy Initiatives (HLPAI), in collaboration with the Nigeria Unity Achievers Forum under the leadership of Prince Maduba Chukwudi, has called on the Imo State Government, led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, to urgently address the escalating crisis of incessant killings in Agwa clan, Oguta Local Government Area.

Prince Maduba Chukwudi, also known as OluImo, emphasized the government's constitutional duty to protect the lives and properties of its citizens, citing Section 14(2)(b) of the 1999 Constitution. He stressed that the security and welfare of the people should be the primary purpose of the government, urging immediate action to halt the extrajudicial killings plaguing Agwa.

In his statement, Chukwudi highlighted the prevailing insecurity in Agwa, noting that many citizens are unable to sleep with peace of mind due to the activities of miscreants. He criticized the perceived inefficiency of the state government, attributing it to the wanton and unnecessary loss of lives. The statement underscored the disparity between the perceived security from the comfort of Owerri and the harsh reality faced by the average Imo State resident.

The HLPAI reported a staggering 167 persons killed in the Agwa clan within the last year, resulting in a forced exile for the entire community. Despite some gunmen surrendering to security agencies, the group expressed dismay that the state government has yet to respond adequately to the urgent pleas from the affected clan.

The group called on the Imo State Government to take immediate action by deploying soldiers and police to restore peace in Agwa. It emphasized that the surrender of a few gunmen should not be the end of the matter, urging the government to actively participate in the peace process to ensure a lasting solution to the crisis.

As the security situation in Agwa continues to deteriorate, the HLPAI and Nigeria Unity Achievers Forum implore Governor Hope Uzodinma and his administration to prioritize the safety and well-being of the citizens by swiftly intervening to end the cycle of violence and restore peace in the troubled region. The onus is on the government to fulfill its constitutional obligation and demonstrate unwavering commitment to protecting the lives of those affected by the ongoing crisis in Agwa.
