AM THE ONLY HOPE FOR A BETTER IMO... ACHONU

By Ugonna Anejionu:

The  candidate of the Labour party in the November 11 Imo governorship election, Sen Athan Nneji Achonu has said he is the only hope for a better Imo state.
Achonu said this while interacting with journalists in his country home in Ehime Mbano Local government area of the state.
Achonu said he is highly elated and honoured by  the level of support and followership he enjoys in the state since he emerged state candidate of  the Labour party.
He said the mammoth crowd that witnessed his party's rally in Owerri few weeks ago is a proof of his support base and the level of optimism in the state presently adding that the people of Imo see him as the best alternative to liberate the state from the shackles of misrule and extra judicial killings which have beclouded the state since the inception of the present administration in the State.
Speaking further about the highly successful rally witnessed by Mr Peter Obi, the Labour party presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Alex Oti, Labour party chieftain and governor of Abia state, Achonu said he was even suprised at the mammoth crowd since the state chapter of the party did not go on local government sensitisation   for the rally.
He said what they had planned to do was a tour of local governments of the state after the rally  as his campaign team believed it would have been highly irrational to make his supporters ply the presently unmmotorable Imo roads to attend the rally emphasising that they had initially planned not to congest Owerri.
Achonu further said that he emerged in the first instance from a keenly contested primary election because he told the delegates the truth and also made them understand his blue print for the State adding that his emergence was not monetarily induced.
He added that he is confident of victory and Promised to change the Imo narrative which he said is long over due.
Achonu said he is only concerned and interested in developing the state as a development oriented person adding that no one can be able to solve the problem of insecurity in the state without creating employment.
He said he has remained one of the biggest  individual employers of labour in the state as an industrialist and chairman of Methan Limited, a company  that proposed the construction of one health center in every local government of Nigeria which he said is about 80 percentage completed.
He said he had retired from the Nigerian politics and opted out from the senate  when he noticed that the system was not committed to the general good and well being of the citizenry but came out of retirement to contest the Imo governorship when Peter Obi joined the party adding that he believed the party needed project and development minded individuals like himself to help Peter Obi change the face of Nigeria.
He however pledged to place Imo on the world map of most developed state within his first three years in office.
