The Imo Labour party guber candidate, Sen Athan Achonu has stated that the APC led administration in the state under Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma is very uncomfortable with his emergence and the very intimidating support he presently enjoys accross the state.
Sen Achonu stated this during an interaction with journalists recently in Abuja ahead of the Wednesday flag off of his campaigns in the state.
Sen Achonu said the recent invasion of his party secretariat in Owerri by heavily armed thugs and men in police uniform shows how jittery the APC government in the state is over his popularity which he said is on a daily rise accross the state.
Last week, the party secretariat in Owerri sent a distress call to the authorities informing them of the attack in the party secretariat during which the party flag, posters and billboards of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi and that of it governorship candidate, Athan Achonu were pulled down. The SAVE OUR SOULS, SOS alert also stated that offices in the party were invaded and party properties destroyed during the attack with many staff and supporters brutally wounded.
Speaking on the attack, Sen Achonu said the attack despite being a desecration of his party secretariat has fortunately brought more popularity and sympathy to the party as people have now seen that the party is presently being intimidated and victimized cos of its rising support base adding that the APC is scared and jittery of the Labour party which he said explains the invasion.
Sen Achonu said the state governor, Sen Hope Uzodimma is practically living in Abuja and Lagos since he emerged at the primaries to curry favours and endorsements against the November governorship election in the state.
He said it is most unfair and hilarious for the APC to spread the propaganda that his emergence was engineered by Gov Uzodimma who planted him in labour party as a stooge adding that it is the biggest joke of the century which the people of Imo disregarded.
Sen Achonu emphasised that the greatest calamity to befall anyone is to hold a Labour thicket which is he said is the most sought after ticket and trade it for a mere one million dollars as alleged considering the fact that Labour party is the most predominant party in the entire south east at the moment.
On the other hand, he said he couldn't have stoopped so low as to collect money from Governor Uzodimma who he said never had any known business in any part of the country and wondered how he got the money to induce him with in his capacity as one of the strongest industrialists, businessmen and highest employers of labour in the state.
Speaking further, he said he served in the same senate with Gov Uzodimma and the PDP guber candidate, Sen Samuel Anyanwu where he outshown them in capacity, achievements, legacies, sagacity and quality proposals adding that they both know him and his capacity and thus the fear and panic as displayed by the Gov Uzodimma led APC in Imo.
Sen Achonu said the frustration of his hotel project in Owerri and also his refinery project in Ohaji are further evidences to the discomfort of the present government in the state which he said prompted their resolve to whittle down his popularity and profile adding that it is most unfortunate that a government will be more concerned in scuttling individual efforts and initiatives that would have created employments to thousands of its Indegenes in an effort to frustrate or eliminate a perceived political threat.
On his chances at the polls, Sen Achonu said his emergence is certain as the people of Imo have long rejected the APC led administration in the state which be said has failed in performance, securing lives and property and delivery of the dividends of democracy to its people.
