It was a feast of harvest on Saturday 28th October,2023 at Inyishi Secondary School in Ikeduru Council Area of Imo State where members of the Community gathered and celebrated Iri-ji festival.
The event was witnessed by prominent sons of Inyishi Ancient Kingdom including Ebubeoha,Oil and Gas, member representing Ikeduru State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly,Hon. John-leo Iheoha,Ezinwa Julius Ikechukwu Onwuzuruoha among others.
Highlights on the occasion were unveiling of yam barn by the traditional ruler of Inyishi Ancient Kingdom,HRH Eze Andrew Ugbondu Osuji(Durumuruike 1 of Inyishi Ancient Kingdom)and displaying of cultural dances by different villages of the Community.
Speaking,Eze Osuji thanked God for the gift of life and successful new yam harvest of 2023.
He described yam as the king of all crops.
The monarch recalled that rich Igbo men were earlier rate based on the size of their yam barn and number of their wives maintaining that new yam festival remains an inevitable celebration in Igbo land.
In a swift reaction, the Chairman of the occasion popularly called "Oil and Gas" stated that new yam festival marks the beginning of a new year in Igbo calendar.
While another prominent son of Inyishi,Ezinwa Julius Ikechukwu Onwuzuruoha expressed joy over the turn-out for the event adding that the celebration always bring their people together so as to discuss a way forward for the development of the Community.
In his remark, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee,Hon. Emma Onumajuru expressed happiness over the turn-out for the event and prayed God for more blessings and protections.
