It was a beehive of cultural activities as the traditional ruler of Ogidi in Idemili North Local Government Area, Igwe Alexander Onyido performed his fourth Ofala festival.
The festival drew sons and daughters of the community including their friends and well wishers from neighbouring communities.
24 illustrious sons of the community drawn from its four quarters received chieftaincy titles including being elevated as High Chiefs due to their contributions to the growth and development of the community.
Traditional rulers from the state led by their Chairman, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe represented by the traditional ruler of Omor, Igwe Chidume Oranu attended the event.
The wife of the Ogidi monarch, Chief Mrs Patricia Onyido, Ndi Otu Odu na Ekwe Ogidi, Ndi Ichie, government officials, representatives from Emir of Kano led by Prince Bello Adebayaro and many other dignitaries were also at hand to witness the momentous event.
The Ofala festival reached its peak when Igwe Onyido in company of his wife, Ndi Ichie and other Chiefs danced dressed in royal robes danced round the Ofala arena at Our Lady of Assumption Parish, Ogidi to the admiration of the guest.
Kolanut rituals followed as Igwe Onyido prayed God to bless the land of Ogudi abundantly, give them long life, good health and prosperity in abundance.
Welcoming his guests with an address, Igwe Onyido said the event provides them with the opportunity to celebrating their unity and love, display their rich cultural heritage in all its splendor, pomp and pageantry and also serves as an opportunity for the monarch stool to address its subjects.
Igwe Onyido poured his outmost gratitude to Governor Chukwuma Soludo for accepting his request to name the Anambra Airport after their legendary brother, Professor Chinua Achebe and for the ongoing reconstruction of rUgwu Nwasike road linking the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
Igwe Onyido said since his assumption of office as the traditional ruler of Ogidi, peace and love have continued to prevail while the community have witnessed tremendous progress and development.
The 2023 Ofala saw all the age grades, chieftancy title holders and many other groups pay homage to the monarch while other cultural activities featured at the event.
