There was jubilation galore at City Primary School located on the ever busy Wetheral Road, Owerri on 17th December,2023 as Ebonyi State indigenes residing in Imo State held end of the year party.
Interestingly, the get-together which was organized by Ebonyi State Union,Imo State Branch attracted prominent sons and daughters of Ebonyi State including, Chief Solomon Nwafor(Chairman of Ebonyi State Union), Chief Barr. Sampson Obodo(Former Acting Chairman of Ebonyi State Union),Chief Emmanuel Ejeje(Patron,Ebonyi Union),Dr. Solomon Nwaifuru(Guest Speaker),Chief Edwin Izogo(Chief Executive Officer of Edon Metals),Mrs Nnenna Ojinere,Mr. Theophilus Okey Nwite(PRO, Ebonyi Union),Amb. Stephen Nwakpa Okwudili(Organizing Committee Chairman),DSP Obodo Augustine, Comrade Kelechi Ugo, Onyebuchi Okoye,Mr. Friday Nwigwe among others.
However,the occasion featured two guest speakers who lectured the marmot crowd on security and health as fulcrums of improving standard of living.
Speaking on security,Barr. Sampson Obodo who is a security expert and indigene of Ebonyi State described security as one's capacity to dictate and avert dangers.
Barr. Obodo attributed insecurity to carelessness urging people to always be vigilant wherever they are.
According to him,"security is everybody's business no matter whom you are.
Carelessness,not organized such as pressing cellphone on the way and staying inside parked vehicle on the road might lead to insecurity. Don't share your success stories to everyone as nobody knows who is his/her close enemy. Always keep secret.No doubt, everyone gathers intelligence through five sensory organs. So,you can easily dictate danger".
While Dr. Solomon Nwaifuru who spoke on health issue,highlighted the importance of weight control, warned against use of contraceptic, illicit drugs, smoking, excessive intake of alcoholic drinks, paracetamol and junk foods.
Earlier, the Chairman of Ebonyi State Union, Chief Solomon Nwafor described Ebonyi Union as an umbrella body of all Ebonyi State indigenes living in Imo State which was given birth in 2022 with over 1000 active members comprising people with impeccable characters.
Chief Nwafor disclosed that the Union was created to foster unity,peace,love, progress, solidarity amongst her members as well as contributing in national development.
He recalled that the Union conducted free,fair and credible election that brought on board his led Executives on 18th June,2023.
Hear him,"the Union under my watch has recorded tremendous achievements within a short period in office which include; opening bank account to enhance financial transparency and accountability. While registration process with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is underway. The Union has graciously shown solidarity and capacity to some of her members by honouring their invitations for child dedications, house opening and funeral ceremonies. Interestingly, the Union is currently approaching Imo State Government to donate a parcel of land for the purpose of building a civic centre for Ebonyi State indigenes who are residents in Imo State.
Above all,we have reeled out #10m empowerment scheme that will benefit members across the three Senatorial Zones of Ebonyi State any moment from now".
The Chairman expressed happiness over the turn-out for the occasion thanking some members who have contributed in different ways in the growth of the Union.
In his vote of thanks, the Organizing Committee Chairman,Amb. Stephen Nwakpa Okwudili thanked the Union for finding him worth to serve in such capacity commending members for massively graced the occasion.
