Over 34 persons, mostly children were reportedly killed in a military drone attack on Kaduna community in Northwest, Nigeria, residents have said.

Eyewitnesses said the drone strike killed 34 and wounded over 66, as reported by the BBC.

Hajiya Aisha, one of the eyewitnesses said, human flesh were scraped from trees and rooftops. She lamented that the community was abandoned after scores were killed while celebrating the birth of the prophet of Islam.

She said, "Scores were massacred, you could see shattered human flesh being scraped from trees, rooftops and collected into sacks after the aerial attack that started around 11pm.

"We were informed at about the time it happened, when we arrived in the village at 9am the following day, there were no security personnel, health personnel or any government representative.

"The people were abandoned. They (military) attacked twice, when the first bomb was dropped the other one came 30 minutes later, killing those trying to rescue the wounded. Some families were wiped out, leaving them with a child or two."

Idris Dahiru, another eyewitness said, "As for me, 34 family members died in the attack. Besides the dead, we have about 66 persons currently hospitalised here at Barau Dikko hospital in Kaduna.

"It was a drone attack because you cannot hear any sound of a plane flying. Therefore, we demand that the community must be compensated for the loss."

Our Reporters had earlier reported that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja visited Tudun Biriin in Igabi Local Government Area.

He had apologised for the airstrike, according to a release which noted that “The COAS in an emotion laden speech expressed regrets on the unfortunate mishap, describing it as a very disheartening occurrence.

“Speaking further, Gen Lagbaja noted that in the recent past, the general area of Tudun Biri and adjoining villages were infested with armed bandits, who terrorised the communities, until troops of the Nigerian Army started conducting operations to sanitise the area and make it habitable. He pointed out, that the troops were carrying out aerial patrols when they observed a group of people and wrongly analyzed and misinterpreted their pattern of activities to be similar to that of the bandits, before the drone strike.”
