It was a gory site and sympathetic to behold as Goods and properties in the popular, CP Bolanta Plaza Owerri owned by the Police Women's Association, POWA were on the early hours of Friday 2 February 2024 gutted by fire and goods and property worthy millions of Naira were destroyed.
Narrating their ordeal, some of the traders who are busy removing the debris and burnt items recalled how the plaza was before it was razed down by fire by the early hours of Last Thursday night wherein even a pin was not able to be secured by the time some of arrived the scene it was already late as fire have covered everywhere and the Imo State Fire Fighters are not on ground to save the situation.
Speaking, Mrs. Mirabel Njoku, a restaurant owner at the plaza said that she is short of words not knowing what to say because she has lost all her business and saves to the fire.
According to her, she stocked her kitchen with edibles and eateables including her gigantic Deep Freezers and her Generator Set were all destroyed in the fire which she estimated to 6. 5 Million Naira .
Another trader, Mr. Lawrence Okoro, Assorted Drinks Dealer said that the finished Thursday sales in good fate went home to sleep only to be woked up around 2 am to the sad news of their business premises on fire behold it was true that fire have destroyed their Goods, property worthy millions of Naira. On his own estimations he personally lost over 2.5 million while the total destructions could not be estimated at the time of filling the report.
It's certainly a period of harmattan and people should be careful with fire and other sensitive materials to avoid further outbreak.
The traders are using the medium to called on the government of Senator Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, good people of the State and other cooperate bodies, Churches to come to their assistant.
While calling on the officers and men of the Nigeria Fire service, Imo Police Women Association (POWA) to come to their rescue and properly investigate the causes of the fire outbreak.
