Iri-Ji Imo 2023: HRM Eze Okeke Chairman, Council Of Traditional Rulers, Announces Sept. 22/23 For Ceremony

As tradition demand in Imo State and Igbo land in general, iri-iji festival is a cultural heritage in Igbo land.  The Chairman, Council of Traditional Rulers (Ndi Eze Imo),HRM, Eze Dr. Emmanuel Okeke, (JP), and the entire members of the Royal Council from across the 27 LGA’s of the state have made it known to the people of the state that Iri-Ji ndi IMO will hold in other to bring back the Igbo cultural heritage.

In a media parley with the gentlemen of the press at palace of  the Chairman of Ndi-Eze-Imo, on Tuesday , September 19th 2023 at the Obi Eze Imo, at Mberi Street in Owerri, he said, “We are gladly waiting patiently and very prepared for the commencement of A-2-Day- Iri-Ji festival which is forthcoming to take place on (Friday & Saturday) 22nd -23rd Sept.2023 in Owerri.

According to Eze Imo, Dr.Okeke, “Most of our Traditional Rulers in their various Autonomous Communities have earlier celebrated their New Yam (Iri-Ji) before now but we decided to celebrate Iri-Ji collectively in Owerri as the State Capital as one people;

“I am sure, the expected programme will be the first of its kind in the history of Iri-Ji in our great State-Imo. We are so happy to gather together for the celebration. It is obviously part of keeping us united, strong and formidable as Royal Fathers in the state. We shall continue to harp on peace and tranquility in our own state because, we have other state”, Eze Okeke submitted.

Eze Imo who ceased the media opportunity, appealed to the people of Imo State from far and near to endeavor to honour their invitation, as he that peace discussion will be the other of day.

“Though, the celebration of the 2023 Median New Yam Festival (Iri-Ji) in Imo is coming at this crucial time but be that as it may, we must talk and harp on peace in our state”, Eze Okeke maintained.

He moreso promised to protect the traditional institution of the land as custodian of culture, even as he called on those perpetrating evil in the state to repeat, embrace peace and the prosperity movement of the state.

Some of the highly respected traditional rulers present at the press conference includes: ” HRH Eze Prof. Dele Odigbo, of Nkwesi Autonomous Community in Oguta LGA, HRM Eze MC Nwokeoma,(Okaome), of Umuokanne Ancient Kingdom in Ohaji-Egbema LGA, and Eze Eric Uchegbu, of Amano Agbaje in Ehime Mbano LGA, alongside other traditional rulers from the state, who joyfully supported the success of the forthcoming Iri-Ji-Ndi-Imo 2023″.
