Sole Administrator of Oru West and Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, (ALGON), Imo State Chapter, Hon. Willie T.C. Okolieogwo, has thrown salute to the Electorate in Imo State for voting massively for the APC Guber Candidate in the just concluded election, Governor Hope Uzodimma and his Deputy Governor-elect, Lady Chinyere Ihuoma Ekomaru.
He gave the salute on Friday, at the ALGON Office, Okigwe Road, Owerri, during a Post Election Parley with Pen Pushers in the state.
Okolieogwo disclosed that the Governor's reelection was meritorious due largely to his leadership acumen and laudable achievements recorded within four years in office.
Adjudging the outcome of the gubernatorial poll as first of its kind in the history of Imo politics, Okolieogwo believed that the election was won back to back with Uzodimma winning "27/27 as INEC saw it and declared Uzodimma winner of the election, which is to say that he deserves the victory", observing that Uzodimma is the first Governor who brought all the guber candidates together after election.
Okolieogwo reflected that "the issue is that APC members and their supporters came out in their large numbers and gave their votes to Uzodimma because he campaigned effectively round the state where he proudly rolled out his numerous achievements to the electorate".
He pointed out that in an election, winners emerge, while losers count their loses, stressing that the opposition must complain in every election. "It is a common political phenomenon globally especially in this part of the society for the opponents to complain during or after election. I cannot remember in any Ward, or Community or Local Government where opponents carried out campaign. But the leadership of Imo APC rigorously campaigned in the grassroots, selling their salable guber candidate to the people and the world".
Advising journalists to always report activities concerning government and the people or society objectively in line with journalism ethos to avoid misinformation or insecurity, the SOLAD of Oru West said many waters had passed under the bridge, saying it is imperative to interface with the media concerning all that had happened and that is happening in Imo State under the Shared Prosperity led Government.
Responding to questions raised by the journalists about what transpired during the last guber election in Orsu LGA, Okolieogwo disclosed that election took place in Orsu and other 26 Local Government Areas of the state peacefully and fairly, as there was no hiccup or violence recorded so far.
He added that those who contested with Uzodimma had embraced the Shared Prosperity led Government and that the Governor is always willing to open doors of prosperity to those who indicate interest to join in making Imo better.
The ALGON Chairman also told journalist that the Governor will conduct LGA election. "I am very much interested to witness the election. Our expectation is that the LGA election will definitely be a reality. The Governor being a grassroot politician cannot afford to disappoint the people especially in that regard".
When asked about the current state of security challenges in Orsu and Onuimo, Okolieogwo said the issue of insecurity in the state is gradually fizzling away as the 3R led administration is not resting on its oars.
"It could be recalled that Uzodimma was not given any Handover Note when he assumed office as the Governor of Imo State and he also inherited empty treasury, but today, he is doing wonders", he noted.
He said government has secured some of the tractors bought by previous government, calling on those who are in doubt to visit the back of Admiral Ndubuisi Kalu Centre (Heroes Square) to see the tractors, affirming that LGAs funds are not controlled by Governor Hope Uzodimma, but by the Council Bosses who he stressed get the money directly from the federal government allocations and are used judiciously on projects, salaries and welfare.
