Honourable Attorney Mathew Nwogu, the member representing Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala at the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja, has assured his constituents of effective representation, adding that the mandate they massively entrusted to him would bring positive impacts to the area, nothing that he was poised to change the narratives of poor legislative representation for the federal constituency.
The federal lawmaker was addressing newsmen recently at the sidelines of the post election stakeholders' meeting of the Imo State Chapter of the Labour Party (LP); an event that attracted the national leadership of the party led by the National Chairman, Barrister Julius Abure, the LP governorship candidate during the November 11th governorship election, Senator Athan Achonu, members of the State Working Committee, other LP lawmakers from the state as well as other stakeholders of the party in the state.
Honourable Nwogu, made it abundantly clear that he understood the plight of his constituents occasioned by previous poor representations at the Green Chamber, hence his decision to come and effect positive change. He equally acknowledged the high expectations from his constituents over his performance, and promised not to let them, but used the opportunity to highlight some of the achievements recorded by the 10th House so far, including attendance to bills and motions, as well as the passage of the 2024 National Budget.
He noted: "So far I can say that we are doing what we are elected to do. I do know that the expectations from my constituents are so high and needed because of the prior representations we have had in the past in the federal constituency. So when people feel that they had been under represented, they would clamour for a change and whoever goes there next would be tasked with the responsibility doing his best. I have been in the National Assembly for seven months now and I can authoritatively stand here and say that we have had twelve bills that have gone through first readings.
"We have also about twelve motions that have gone through the floor, including the motion to stop the police from extorting and dehumanizing our people in the South East and especially in Imo State. The job of a legislator is to go there and make laws for the interest of the nation and the people. But there is also the need to to attract projects. We just concluded the national budget on the 30th of December which the president has signed into law, making it an Act. Very soon the impact of that budget would be felt by our people when the releases are done."
He enjoined Aboh Mbaise/Ngor Okpala people to be patient and to always support him to serve them well, insisting that his sole interest was to close the gaps of poor representations by advocating strongly for their welfare, as well as attracting the needed development and transformations through people-oriented projects in the area. He thanked them for their massive support that gave overwhelming victory during the National Assembly election, assuring that their wise electoral decision would surely bring them numerous benefits.
Similarly, Honourable Nwogu, spoke on the fortunes of the Labour Party in the state, pointing out that the remained the people's party with strong grassroot appeals, hence it holds promised for a better Imo State and Nigeria. He, however, pleaded with other stakeholders to close ranks in order to advance the cause of the party, adding that with the present economic and security challenges bedeviling the country, the enthronement of LP government in the country had become imperative to save the country from total collapse.
"Today, we are having our stakeholders meeting since after the election. And these are people who have the best interest of the party. People you must call upon when you want things to move well with the party. Today's meeting is to gather all the people to find out what their roles would be in the party. The party needs more membership. The party needs to hold forth because we are the people's party when grassroot matters. I encourage all the stakeholders to work for the unity and and progress of the party at all times. Our party needs to be strong and well positioned to salvage the country. I also appreciate the leadership at the national and state levels for the good jobs they are doing.
