Youths of Umuowa autonomous community in ubomiri mbaitolu local government area has commenced massive maintenance and repairs of roads within their community.
The president umuowa youth assembly comrade Ugwumsinachi Francis Ajuruchi Esq. confirmed this during the flag off umuowa ukwuakpu nkwo ubomiri road grading and sand filling on Wednesday 31 January 2024.
According him, this particular road is ancient and important to the community because it helps the market women and farmers to navigate their farmer produce to nkwo ubomiri market, for some years now the road have been out of use due to flooding and erosion ravaging the area, we have written to the local government council severally for assistance which they ignored hence the youths resolved to take up the challenge.
If we wait further the raining season will meet us again and it will be more disastrous to the entire community.
" For the past 8 years this road has been abandoned, the previous regime made every effort to do some repairs on the road but it was thwarted due to some selfish interest and disagreement, this time we have to do some consultancy, redesigning and replanning, that was how we were able to come up with sand-filling and grading of the road with caterpillar to make it motorable for all and sundry, he said.
The taskforce chairman Mr Owuamana Chigozie reiterated that the youths were able to fund the project through the development levy generated from the community stressing that they had earlier embarked on the installation of solar street lights in every nook and cranny of the community.
"Our community is now enjoying a relative peace and development courtesy of the youths, we also ensured that our youths do not engage on hard drugs and social vices because we have a lay down rule to deal decisively with any body involved in any kind of crime after which we hand the person over to the police.
He further enjoined the government and leaders of the community to support the youths in carrying out other community projects which he said will be for the betterment of the entire village.
