NEMA in an update on Wednesday noted that the airport manager is requesting assistance for the pulling out of the aircraft from the mud after the final assessment report.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has stated that its officials alongside other sister agencies have cleared the runway at the Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State where an aircraft skidded off on Tuesday.
NEMA in an update on Wednesday noted that the airport manager is requesting assistance for the pulling out of the aircraft from the mud after the final assessment report.
The agency said the airport’s runway has been cleared for flight activities to resume operations.
SaharaReporters on Tuesday reported that the aircraft belonging to Nigerian airline, ValueJet skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt International Airport in Rivers State.
“Value Jet Airline aircraft has skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt International Airport, there are reports of injuries,” a source had said.
“An aircraft has landed in an emergency way in Port Harcourt airport. While some persons were injured, no death was recorded.”
Meanwhile, in the update, NEMA said, “NEMA SS ZONE Responded to a call from the Airport manager at about 16:45hours regarding this flight from Lagos to Port Harcourt with over 100 passengers.
“The plane landed missing the landing point on the tarmac and sped off the runway into the muddy grassy bush at the airport. All passengers were safe and safely evacuated with their luggage. Other stakeholders with NEMA at the airport included the Nigeria Air Force, the police, NCAA, FAAN and their security, Airport fire service.
“The airport manager is requesting assistance for the pulling out of the aircraft from the mud after the AIB’s final assessment today or tomorrow. The runway has been cleared for flight activities to resume operations. The area of the accident had been cordoned out of the take-off and landing zones.”
